Project Summary

  • Category: Software Project Management
  • Client: Internal | Logistics Dept
  • Project date: December, 2021
  • Problem: Logistics kept double booking loading docks, making scheduling mistakes, and upsetting freight partners due to our rapid company growth & undefined processes.

Problem

As ERI grew to 9 warehouses, a logistics team spread over 4 timezones, and a growing number of freight companies, we struggled with increasingly complex dock scheduling.

Our existing software had no way to see dock timeslots offered to drivers, which meant we were constantly double booking freight carriers and warehouse loading docks.

The Logistics dept was relying on email, spreadsheets, and daily printouts to schedule hundreds of weekly shipments causing major headaches.

Solution

The Head of Logistics already had an idea to add pending dock requests to their existing dashboard & approached me to have it implemented.

I had our designer mockup the new design. I created a color & striping scheme to differentiate each phase. I added filters so Logistics could see through the clutter.

Logistics loved the draft. I converted it to a DevOps project for our overseas development team. I had it tested, deployed, and approved to much excitement.
